In 1913, Anton Gmeinder founded a production facility for locomotives, gearboxes and machines in Mosbach and further developed a new type of hydrostatic transmission system. Since 2003, the company has focused on gearbox production as its core business. Since spring 2019, the Gmeinder Getriebe has a new owner, the company Wikov Industry a.s.. Wikov Industry is an established European gearbox producer with its headquarters in Prague.
In 2020, the Gmeinder Getriebe simplified its corporate structure and merged all companies, with the exception of the Gmeinder Immobilien GmbH, into GGT GMEINDER GETRIEBETECHNIK GmbH. Its core business consists of two pillars. On one hand, the development, design and sale of customer-specific gearboxes and drives for rail vehicles. On the other hand, the maintenance and repair of own and third-party gearboxes, including measures for product improvements.
